Description

Dermol Cream 500g is an antimicrobial emollient cream for use in the treatment and management of the dryness and itching (pruritus) which are common features of skin complaints like eczema and dermatitis.

How Dermol Cream Work?

The emollients form a barrier within the skin surface, trapping the moisture in deeper layers of skin and reducing drying.

The antimicrobial ingredients combat the aggravating bacteria already present on the skin which make certain types of eczema worse. Dermol Cream is also designed to be used as a soap substitute. This is advantageous because ordinary toiletry soaps can make dry skin worse by removing its natural oils.

What is eczema?

Eczema is a dry skin condition where you’ll experience areas of dry, itchy, irritated skin. Many people experience eczema, especially children who can grow out of eczema as they grow older. Some of the most common places where people experience eczema include:

  • Hands and fingers
  • Inside of elbows
  • Backs of knees
  • Face and scalp

How will Dermol Cream help to soothe my eczema?

Dermol Cream contains four active ingredients which work together to ease dry skin conditions such as eczema. The first two are benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine dihydrochloride, which are antimicrobial ingredients. This means that they kill bacteria that can irritate dry skin conditions and reduces the chances of infection if you scratch when you have a flare-up. The second two active ingredients are liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate, which are emollients. This means that they form a protective barrier over dry skin that keeps moisture locked in and irritants out.

Uses / Instructions

You can use Dermol Cream as a leave-on cream or as a substitute for soap or shower gels:

  • To use as a cream, gently smooth Dermol Cream onto the skin. Do not rub in, allow time for the cream to soak into the skin. Reapply as needed
  • To use as a soap substitute, simply use Dermol Cream to clean yourself as you would any ordinary soap or shower gel. Pat the skin dry with a soft towel after use

Warnings

  • Do not use in case of known sensitivity to any of the ingredients.
  • Take care to avoid the cream getting into the eyes. If this should occur, rinse the eyes thoroughly with plenty of warm water. Consult a doctor if irritation persists.
  • If a significant quantity of the cream is accidentally swallowed, nausea and vomiting may occur.
  • Serious effects are unlikely, but if there is cause for concern, seek medical attention.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Dermol Cream can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If you experience any of the following reactions stop using Dermol Cream and get urgent medical help:

  • swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat;
  • a sudden uncharacteristic red itchy skin rash (hives) away from the site of application;
  • wheezing or breathing difficulty;
  • feeling faint
  • dizzy;
  • a strange metallic taste in the mouth;
  • collapse.
  • You may be having a serious allergic reaction.

Rarely, Dermol Cream can cause skin reactions on treated areas (involving redness, irritation and/or itching). These very rare skin reactions may become more significant where associated with excessive use as a leave-on application in areas of folded skin such as the groin or in the nappy area.

Stop using this cream and tell your doctor or pharmacist:
• If your skin condition seems to look or feel worse.
• If any of the side effects become unacceptable, or you notice any other side effects not mentioned in this leaflet
