Description

Malarone has two uses:
▪ to prevent malaria
▪ to treat malaria

How to take Malarone. Malaria is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito, which passes the malaria parasite (Plasmodium falciparum) into the bloodstream. Malarone prevents malaria by killing this parasite. For people who are already infected with malaria, Malarone also kills these parasites.

Uses / Instructions

Malarone should be taken once daily with food or a milky drink at about the same time each day. Start taking the tablets one to two days before you enter a malaria risk region and continue until one week after you leave the region.

Warnings

Occasionally, severe allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis) have been reported in patients taking Malarone. If patients experience an allergic reaction Malarone should be discontinued promptly and appropriate treatment initiated.

Side Effects

Malarone is notable for having far fewer side effects than other, older malaria drugs. While some people experience side effects, such as coughing, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, mouth sores, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, or weakness, the majority have none or few of these.
